On January 23, at the Ministry Head Office, Minister Dao Ngoc Dung had a cordial meeting with the Federal Republic of Germany’s Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Hubertus Heil. At the meeting, the two sides discussed on a number of the cooperation issues in the field of labour between the two countries. The meeting was one of the activities in the framework of the State visit of the German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier to Vietnam.

At the meeting, Minister Dao Ngoc Dung highly appreciate the concern of the German side in general and the Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Hubertus Heil in particular with the field of labour – employment in Vietnam. Especially, in the framework of the State Visit of President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, a MOU on the field of Labour – Employment is the only MOU signed between the two countries, with the representatives from the Vietnamese Ministry of Labour – Invalids and Social Affairs and German Ministry of Labour – Social Affairs.

According to Minister Dao Ngoc Dung, in 2023, Vietnam has dispatched more than 150,000 workers working abroad, namely Hungary, Bulgaria, Canada,… Recently, Vietnam has also dispatched more than 1,000 nursing staff from Vietnam to study and work in Germany. Also, the Ministerial Leaders directly visited the nursing home in Germany to monitor and care about the capacity and work conditions of these nurses.

At the meeting, Minister Hubertus Heil thanked Minister Dao Ngoc Dung for the warm welcome and expressed his impression of the result achieved between Vietnam and Germany on the occasion of the State visit of President Frank-Walter Steinmeier to Vietnam.

Sharing about the labour market of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Minister of Labour and Social Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany informed that currently, Germany has been facing the issues of population aging. To increase the attraction of workers from other countries, especially from Vietnam, the German Parliament recently improved labour settlement and may further change the recognition of language certificates as well as relevant professional certifications in the future. In addition, in the forthcoming time, the Federal Republic of Germany will digitize the visa issuance process (VISA) to help reduce visa application processing time and increase the promotion of German occupations so that workers can easily identify jobs.

To realize the Memorandum of Understanding between the two Ministries, Minister Hubertus Heil proposed to organize an online workshop to help enhance the ability to attract workers from Vietnam to work in Germany. The workshop is an opportunity for the two Ministries to specifically determine the plan to implement the MOU as well as discuss the issues and propose solutions.
