Vietnam is a country that has a young and numerous labour workforce. The Vietnamese labour workforce in the quarter II of 2023 is recorded to continuously increase, reaching the top of 52,7 million people, more than 0.7 million people compared to the figure of 2022. Over the past few years, the number of Vietnamese workers choosing to work abroad has rocketed. According to Department of Overseas Labour – a unit of Vietnam Ministry of Labour – Invalids and Social affairs, in the first 6 months of the year 2023, the total number of Vietnamese labour working overseas is 72.294 people, about 1.55 times compared to the same period of the previous year. This means that employers have believed in the developing potential as well as the suitable characteristics of Vietnamese workers in the international labour market. There are some characteristics of Vietnamese labour as following:

  • Vietnamese workers are industrious and studious

“Hard working” and “eager to learn” is what international employers often say about Vietnamese workers. They always work hard and try their best with their assigned tasks. Vietnamese workers also value their tasks and take serious responsibility when they are assigned tasks. Therefore, international factories and companies often expect to find Vietnamese workers to work in the positions requiring the high-level of effort and physical health.

  • Vietnamese labour have much experience of Agriculture, Forestry and Fishery

With the long history of agriculture development, most of the Vietnamese people have rich experience in agriculture, especially the generation X or Y. Currently, more than 60% of Vietnamese employees are working in the Agricultural and Industrial fields. Additionally, with the geographic characteristics of the long coast, there are many Vietnamese workers who are seasoned with fishing and seafood processing. Hence, adapting with the working environment of agriculture, forestry and Fishery is not a big deal with many Vietnamese people. Moreover, because of experiencing laborious and taxing working conditions, Vietnamese labourers are willing to work in the positions which require high-level of physical health.

  • Vietnamese people learn fast

With the willingness to learn and ambition, Vietnamese people are judged as quick learners and adapters with new jobs by employers. They own a learning tradition in which they do not learn for themselves but also for their family, parents and children. As a result, this learning morale is always maintained and passed by generations for a long time.
